Hi Muddy, I am a software developer and I created a small application to take the list of day rangers you post each week and convert them to a CSV file that can be easily imported into Interactive Brokers. I find it useful since it saves me the time required to manually enter all the symbols on the watch lists into IB.
I understand you might find this sort of offer suspect (perhaps I am trying to give you a virus or plant a trojan on your and other members' machines), so I am happy to provide the source code for the app and you could look at it and even compile it yourself if you wanted to.
Let me know if you are interested and I will send the app and the source code to you. Thanks for the watch lists and chat!
I have zipped up the program along with the source code and put it up on a domain I own. You can download the zip file here.
To run it, you must have the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or higher installed. You probably already have this since it comes through Windows Update, but if you don't, you can get it here.
To run the utility, just unzip the files and then run IBImportFileCreator.exe. If you are interested in the source code, you can look at it and compile it using Microsoft Visual C# 2008 Express Edition available for free here.
Using the utility is pretty simple. Just copy the list of symbols separated by spaces from the blog post and paste them into the large text box labeled "Symbol List". Then browse for the location you want to save the file (by default it will save it as Import.csv in the IB Trader Workstation default directory). Then click the Save button and it will save a CSV file and close. Then in IB Trader Workstation you can just use File -> Import and browse to the file created and voila, you have your watch list.
Let me know if you have any comments or improvement requests or if things aren't working for you. If there's any other simple (or not so simple) utilities that would make life easier, let me know about that too.
To make the most of the chat room, please read the blog!
This blog exists so that Muddy doesn't have to repeatedly answer the same questions from new readers and chat room members.
Muddy outlines how he screens, selects, and plays stocks. You won't find daily posts on the market. We don't care if the markets are green or red, nor do we post general market commentary. As Loki said in the chat room, "No matter the shade, cash to be made".
