GREAT SEMINAR LAST NIGHT

Chuck from Cy Group with with us last night and the information he had was just great.
If you've ever wanted to beat the pdt rule plus learn how to trade at the same time you should check out this seminar..

[Sun Feb 15 17:05:27 EST 2009] CyGroup Right, thanks for the intro, — obviously everyone knows that the PDT rule is very restrictive, even for a pro trader, securing 25k to trade is getting harder and harder… — in the world of prop trading, traders are allowed to join a group and trade the firms capital and thus overriding the PDT rule.

Every question was answered HERE

Trading for a Proprietary Firm

This past week at InvestorsUnderground we've been discussing a solution for the pattern day trade rule. InvestorsLive spent some time speaking with the firm this past week discussing what options you as a trader have if under the Pattern Day Trade rule.

Many of you called them this week with many similar questions and we figured it'd be most beneficial to invite them to the chat room to answer Q and A for everyone at once. It will be documented and we'll add a section for it later this week. This is a great opportunity for those stuck under the PDT rule to have the freedom to take a quick loss and move onto a more profitable trade quickly rather than worrying about using up one of the few trades you're given per week.

Join our live chat tonight at 8 EST, and find out more. Free trial here.

MY TAKE.....Tim Syke's Pennystocking Part Deux Review

Laura and I watched this together...I agree on all points she made...
I'll add this,to me this DVD was a playground,I loved the charts and the stocks he talked about in those charts.
Why,because I remember those runs and know every last one of them.
Certainly you won't unless you follow stocks as much as I do,but the point is Tim knows exactly which stocks and charts to use as examples.
That to me says a lot about his reputation...no junk here...just the best examples to learn from.
Being gonzo myself,I really liked the part where he talks "Boring Breakouts" and choppy messy charts.
Just as I feel,Tim feels the same way.
The stocks/charts he uses as examples of these are dead on...we are looking for potential big movers, not yawners...Tim does a great job here with these.

One thing I have to disagree with is he says his niche isn't really scalable.
Ok,I understand he is looking for the "Super plays" and that is correct if you just look for those because there are so few,it's not scalable in that vein.
But here is the thing to me,which to me makes his niche so awesome.....IF you can master getting into Tim's head, how he looks at this angle you CAN make it scalable.
By this I mean one doesn't need just the Super Play...
Myself I can find a few dozen a week off his angle that in essence aren't Super but way good enough on the risk/reward side, both long and short.
Remember,Super Plays don't always pan out,nothing is 100%.
What I'm saying If you understand this niche, imo,you can find a bunch of others that give you great possible trades.
To me this is even a greater testimonial to this DVD.
You work hard, learn your stocks and the patterns Tim describes (just on a lesser scale in relation to their breakouts/runs) daytrade them,I say you can scale this into big time cash.
Funny but I don't even think Tim realizes what a gold mine this can be to an EXPERIENCED trader who comes close to mastering this niche he has.
In closing, this DVD is worth every penny,imo....it's a dark corner of the trading world, one that he brings to light.

Tim Sykes' Pennystocking Part Deux Review

Timothy Sykes' Pennystocking Part Deux educational trading DVD utilizes many charts to illustrate when to short and yes, when to buy these often manipulated stocks. The beginning of the DVD covers some basics such as the importance of risk management and then moves on to cover when to buy penny stocks. He reviews how to spot breakouts and the various types of breakouts such as technical, manipulation, and squeeze breakouts. Tim uses many chart examples to show you how to recognize and buy into the breakout. An important point he hammers home is that these breakouts can be very strong at times so don’t short into strength just because you think it can’t go higher. It can, it may.

The next lesson moves on to how and when to short and the chart patterns to look for. He shows you how to spot the breakdown, afternoon fade, volume fading, message board chatter dwindles etc. Once again, with dozens of charts, he shows you the exact things to look for on the chart such as waiting for the first red day. Tim does a nice job with the charts of illustrating that most of the breakdowns have similar characteristics. He then reviews when to cut losses and take profits.

Discs 2-3 dig much deeper into breakouts and super-novas. He uses some of the same stock charts from the lessons on Disc 1 and goes into more detail (and a lot more intraday charting) on morning spike patterns and how to play the super-nova pattern. He discusses the reasons why the breakout is occurring and which breakouts to avoid such as a fundamental breakout on good earnings. He also covers how to spot support and resistance in a simple, not overly technical, way. Disc 4 continues covering the breakouts, particularly ones caused by stock pumpers, spam mailers and PR. Dozens more charts show the signals to watch for to go long and the time to short. Tim reviews and sums up the key points of trading at the end.

If you’ve ever been afraid to buy a breakout because it already looked too high, or ever shorted too soon and gotten squeezed as the stock continues upwards, then Pennystocking Part Deux will definitely help you decipher the charts and understand that the movements are not random. There are reasons for the way these stocks move and Tim does a great job revealing those reasons in an easy to understand way.

Overall a very good value for new and experienced traders alike, packed with lessons on how to trade these volatile pennies. For more information on Tim’s instructional DVDs, click the Tim link in the right sidebar of the blog.

FROM DARKSIDE BLOG

A SCAN FOR LOSERS

Now that the market is starting to turn around a bit (so far) this scan can find some nice potential longs,if one waits for green.
It finds stocks that have lost at least 8% in the last day,at least 10% over the last 2 days plus stocks not down that much over 1 or 2 days but are "failures",meaning they are stringing together down days after hitting this scan days ago.
They failed to close green, hence failures.
The scan ranks them in the order of highest to lowest % of times they have run 10% or more in the last 100 days.
If you wish add ADR10 and/or ADR30 columns and it becomes a neat little scan.
A stock Il Torello talks about on his blog today,SAH,hit this scan on 11/24 and is up 112% since.

This scan is a play off the RFR scan and like that scan this RFR Loser scan was coded and given to me by Avery Horton aka TheRumpledOne.
Credit and Thanks out to him.

Not only do these make for some excellent longs, also make some excellent shorts.
These Volume increase stocks usually at least 1/2 of them have moved 10%+ the next day,one way or the other either up or down.
And as days go by many increase nicely in the direction they started the 1st day on the scan.

HYHY- the highest dayranger last week on over a buck stocks, been a pump.now broke $2 to the downside.short biased but on green over 2 might have a good up run there.

HDLM- 25 out of last 100 days it’s run over 10% in a day.also a few week pump.right on even $2,you know what i mean?? Oh and Walmart mentioned in it’s pr,it’s going to die i think…soon

BSHF- a “re pump” from 6/2 newsletter.way short biased on this.

SORC- another pump ( don’t ya love this? )and it worked but it’s just over $2 now and a red floater..hmmmm,take ‘er down

JADE- up big Friday, need I say more, dogmeat this one.way short biased. If this one ain’t red on Monday i’ll give Tim all my watches for free! ooops already do, Hey,lucky you Tim!

GSOL- trying to bounce off piggy bottom ..sorry ain’t gonna on that fluffy news ..anytime you see “Arab” mentioned in a “big” p/r you know it’s going down.

RNIN- was a great momo Friday but it’s back to reality.Short biased.

HPOL- nice 2 day run, might have more, hoping it does near 3 soon, may be good short hold if it hits that level and doesn’t break it.

ASFI- held strong Fri after being a late pre hit,up nice last 2 days, hate to use the word scalp but I see it in this one.

CYXN- a “re pump”,let it run,was nice short on red last time.

MMPI- I love trading this big dayranger,up down up down,so now we have 2 ups, what’s your guess Monday, mine’s DOWN

DLA- any stock that has the big p/r that moved this tied to Junkfood and BabyGap in the same sentence, well you know.

GNOLF- famous for promo pumps ( that never worked,ha )this is actually starting to run big,a double since last pump 5 days ago.let it run more or take a chance special on red short.watching careful.

VVTV- this is a real bow wow dog.it did a bounce on Friday.my guess it won’t come close to holding $4. liking for longer term short, bark bark

OEDV- pumped, ran, went red,vol dying.short biased a few days or more imo.

PGOG- a mention by Beacon research, that ain’t good.short biased for sure

GETG- was a pump, got feeling it can’t hold 2.20 for long

PCYC- great daytrader,2 days up off dump,i’m long green/short red.short biased though.

APIO, 7 ups on a pump (tired of saying that word but they are all around us )flat last 2 days, vol fading, might be a nice longer term short.

SCEY- A know promo pump stock.it ripped Friday on 1.3 mil shrs.off the bottom ,would like to see it run its brains out, then short time on red.

PBOF- another junker that had “Peru” in its pr,really fluff nursery plant news.8 up days in a row from .20 to .42, great short watch on red imo.

RFIL- earnings play up big big Friday but still off hods nice and low vol.really don’t like to short the e/r ones but it broke 8 to the downside.gotta be short biased for me.

THE MASTER OF GOING FASTER

When I got laid off from my job, I contacted my old friend Muddy whom I had kept in contact with over the years after meeting him in a bookstore in the investing section of that store.
I told him I was finally going to try and get serious with his approach.
Up until then I used the same old same old stuff most everyone uses and I basically stunk at trading that way.
So I asked for a huge favor in that after reading through his blog a few times and trying to get the gist of it,would he mentor me live trading for a few weeks since we live so close.
He said he'd be glad to and his stuff absolutely turned my trading around to where I am today.
I'll never ever be him but that's ok.
For me even remotely close is way good enough.

Turning me on to the Scott hod list and almost demanding me to learn the former runners and the high dayranging stocks so I could train my eyes to see them when they started to roll on that hod list was the best advice I'd ever gotten in over 14 years of trading.
In the few weeks with Muddy when he was mentoring me,
I could not believe what I was seeing with him and that scrolling hod list.
He was catching stocks on their first vol spike breakouts from that list that were running 10-20-50% in less than an hour, sometimes minutes. When we checked later comparing news wire hits and time of the stock breakout,Muddy was catching many of these even BEFORE the news hit the wires!
When I said to him that was unreal, he just laughed and shrugged and said,”happens almost everyday,no big deal.”
No big deal??, dude, I said, that is WHACK!!

He is faster than a bullet from a gun.
He is "the master of going faster"
Thanks to him and others also ( especially Timmay who Muddy also turned me onto for learning how to SHORT these low priced junkers ) who have helped me along the way.

The words of this song fit almost perfect!

George Harrison
Faster lyrics

Chose a life in circuses
Jumped into the deepest end
Pushing himself to all extremes
Made it - people became his friend.

Now they stood and noticed him
Wanted to be part of it
Pulled out some poor machinery
So he worked til the pieces fit.

The people were intrigued
His wife held back her fears
The headlines gave acclaim
Hed realized their dreams.

Faster than a bullet from a gun
He is faster than everyone
Quicker than the blinking of an eye
Like a flash you could miss him going by
No one knows quite how he does it but its true they say
Hes the master of going faster.

Now he moved into the space
That the special people share
Right on the edge of do or die
Where there is nothing left to spare.

Still the crowds came pouring in
Some had hoped to see him fail
Filling their hearts with jealousies
Crazy people with love so frail.

The people were intrigued
His wife held back her fears
The headlines gave acclaim
Hed realized their dreams.

Faster than a bullet from a gun
He is faster than everyone
Quicker than the blinking of an eye
Like a flash you could miss him going by
No one knows quite how he does it but its true they say
Hes the master of going faster.

No need to wonder why
His wife held back her fears
So few have even tried
To realize their dreams.
Faster than a bullet . . . (repeat chorus)

Chat Room Guide and Acronyms

Hi all!

Please read our chat room guidelines below. With an average of 130 members in chat daily, failure to adhere to the rules may result in a ban from the chatroom.
  1. If you want to actively chat/participate in the room please take the time to READ the Blog. Most all of your questions are already explained there more than once. Use the search box on the blog as it does work pretty good. Also I have added more links to the Important Posts on the sidebar.
  2. The room is for alerts of hot momo (momentum, stocks on the move) low priced stocks. Specifically stocks UNDER $20. Large cap stocks such as AAPL, RIMM, GOOG etc. are considered Off Topic in this chat. Low priced stocks are our niche, please respect that. Additionally, options are OT also.
  3. The moderators are under no obligation to tell you when or if they bought/sold or at what price. We may or may not have bought before the alert. You must decide on your own whether or not to initiate a position. You gotta understand, you are not paying us and we are not offering advice.
  4. Please don't ask a moderator to analyze your charts/stocks/trades during trading hours.
  5. From 9:00 am to 4:00 pm ET, limit off topic chat. Most people in the chat work full time. If the alerts are buried in a long OT discussion, it’s very hard to see the real alerts. Extended OT discussions about brokers, pattern day trading, general market conditions etc. can be done through private messaging or discuss it after hours in the chat room. In other words, take it OFF LINE.
  6. Use all CAPS for stock symbols and give a brief reason for your alert. Same reason as above, makes it easier to see the alerts for people that work.
  7. Refrain from asking the same questions time and again through the day. The mods and active traders are pretty busy trading, watching, and posting. If the question has already been asked and answered, write down the answer.
  8. Trade well and have fun!
Acronyms etc.

Off the top of my head list for the newbies visiting the chat room and blog. Everyone, please feel free to add a comment for any others not on this list!

  • HOD- high of day
  • LOD- low of day
  • EOD- end of day
  • O/N- overnight
  • 52s- new 52 week high
  • Green- price is above prior day closing price
  • Red- price is below prior day close
  • "Green to red" - (vice versa red to green) means stock was above prior day's close, but now has dropped below
  • ADR -average day range over a certain period number of days, i.e. ADR(30), the higher the number, the more volatile
  • D/R or dayranger- see above
  • UBB- Upper Bollinger Band
  • LBB -Lower Bollinger Band
  • DD- Due diligence, do your homework on the stock, news, earnings, fundamentals etc.
  • E/R- Earnings Report
  • Pre- Pre-market trades
  • AH- After Hours trades
  • Low float -usually small cap companies with fewer shares issued and a lot of those shares owned by insiders or institutions. Hence lower number of shares actively traded. That increases volatility and potential for short squeeze or drop/rise on E/R or news.
  • R/R- Risk/reward
  • 10/60 cross- See post on sidebar under important posts.
  • Muddy zone-Search blog for that phrase, on daily chart is area between the EMA 10/SMA 30 (or 20)
  • Jiggy- phrase coined by Muddy a couple years ago. Refers to watching the Scottrade quote box. When a stock is gearing up for a possible big move the bid/ask size, bid/ask exchanges, and the prices all start to change very rapidly as orders are increasing tremendously.
Everyone, do some homework here on the blog. Tons of good info.

PRE MARKET LEADER DROPS

Besides pre leader "late" hits that I've talked about many times, another and imo an even better risk / reward play, I've talked about on chat is the angle of finding your leaders and following them on watch and looking for ones that turn red.

In order to find my leaders I use at least up 5 % pre and a minimum of 1000 shares traded.

So at the open almost all are up 5%.

Now I want to see red for any short candidates.
But not just red , I want at least a 2-3% confirmation after it goes red ( current price lower than yesterdays close ).
Believe me this giving away 2-3% is a good thing as many under 2% will pull a headfake and return fairly quickly back to even or green.

You don't get many plays,in fact with a list of 20 you may only get a couple a week but imo the risk/reward almost can't be beat.

From my list of 31 today:

CPCI AIRT CMED CLWT CYBX CASY CMZ ABI GERN AW ENS UAUA LYG IBN THC SNG SIRF DGLY NMSS OPXA CYTR TMY DCR ROSG HOTT DSCO FHN NCC ASIA HIMX

only 5 finished the day red and of those only UAUA SIRF and DCR had any vol to speak of.
DCR spread wasn't that tight but I guess was playable.
SIRF was 6.11 close yesterday so with that 2-3% the enter short was around 5.95.
It only reached 6.01 so not a confirm.
If you read my post here I love to trade around even dollar marks . I'd never have shorted it until it fell below the $6 mark anyway .If the confirm mark had been say 6 to 6.05 I'd have waited until at least 5.98/5.99 to go short.

Now UAUA turned out to be the perfect play.
It closed yesterday at 7.22 so red would be 7.21 today.
It ran as high 7.63 today and it didn't look at all like it would go red.
BUT it did hit 7.21 to go red.
The confirm short price was around $7 to 7.05 area BUT as I said I don't enter trades that are that close to an even dollar UNTIL that mark is broken.
So I was looking at around 6.95 area to get short.
Look at the chart and see how UAUA just totally fell apart after falling below $7.
In 2 hours of dumpage it hit a lod of 5.58!
Using the trailer of 3% that I also posted on that post that I use most times, the 3% stop from what then was the current lod of 5.58 my stop was 5.75 if it rose that far.
And it did and I stopped out with a no sweat trade of about $1.20 a share in 2 hours.
Of course they all don't do or even come close to this one but as I said, imo the risk/reward on these few a week is pretty darn good.

Tim Sykes Book Review

An American Hedge Fund was an unexpectedly pleasurable read. Boy makes good, the “great American dream”. Refreshing in the telling (and I must say, I agree with other reviewers, it does remind me of Reminiscences of a Stock Operator), it highlights the incredible euphoria and gut wrenching lows of penny stock trading. While not a trading manual, his downfall trade of Cygnus paints a quintessential story of a newer trader’s education and downfall by letting emotions/ego take over and ignore the market facts. The fact is, the market doesn’t care what you think. Get over it.

Tim’s book is also a great read for its take behind the hedge fund curtain and market manipulation. When you finish this book you should know that the odds are stacked against you at all times, particularly as a small investor. Penny stocking is a risky business. Tim’s book is the appetizer. Buy his DVD for the whole enchilada.

Which Came First - Sykes or SYKE?

Actually it was Sykes. The famous (or infamous) Timothy Sykes stopped by our chat room this morning for a visit. Strangely enough, a few hours after he left SYKE hit a new 52 week high. 'Sup with that Timmay????? Coincidence? I don't think so.....

LOL, looks like Timmay has discovered new found powers to move the markets, influence traders, and single-handedly start a grassroots PTD rule revolt against the SEC. Wowser!

Just kidding Tim, nice to see you stop by.

Market Movers aka HOD list

Scrolls from bottom to top. Low of day on the left, high of day on the right. 52 week high and lows highlighted in green and red. This screenshot is a good example as it shows ACOR hitting 52s penny by penny.

Edit: In chat today someone asked me how to set up the Market Movers. Unfortunately you can't do ANY setup. I would love to be able to get rid of low volume and true penny stocks from the list, but no way to do it. To set it up, all you have to do is click on the Market Movers button shown in the picture below. Hope this helps.

Chat Room Rocking Again!

Nice to see so many new people here!

We used to have 30-40 peeps everyday, but what with Muddy on hiatus everyone disappeared. As most of the chat regulars here know, I have been very sick for the past few months and that has taken its toll on both of us. We are just trying to get our life back and hopefully we can get things in full swing again. Thanks go out to 13th, Muddy's (and my friend) for helping out. He and Muddy have known each other a long time and 13th's calls are right on the money.

Nice to see people getting the "red floater" thing for example, and great that 13th posted all of the methods we use in one post. Muddy is generally too lazy to post that much!

Only gripe I have dudes, you both gotta stop using me as your secretary to post the frigging charts!

I'M GONNA TRY

...to put everything that I do to prepare for the next trading day, the scans I run and the different styles I use to chose stocks to trade both long and short.
No doubt I will forget a few things and will update this post as I remember different things.
I'm gonna try to get it all in this 1 post because the last month I've been asked by quite a few a bunch of questions regarding my trading style.
Please note that very few of these ideas are mine.
Most have come from Muddy and his blog.
It took me many months but I think I'm on the track for a very bright trading future, thanks to him.

First, every weekend I run the top 40 dayrangers from last week. These are great to watch for green to red or red to green.

The stockfetcher scan:
"show stocks where the average day range(10) is above 8 percent and close price is between 1 and 10 and volume is above 300000."
With this scan I have a column added ADR(30) and I rank the top 40 in order top to bottom highest ADR(30).
For next week the list is:
DCR HYHY FPP LNG SSBX PFB WCI XRIT YTBLA TPLM SYNM KIRK SPF UNCL RTK ROIAK ICOG MMPI LCC TGC PEIX DCGN EEE UAUA XJT ENT QTWW KYUS NWA BSHF DSUP GFG CPSL BCON RCH EGR EBHI AKNS ATSG LGND

Next I scan for stocks over 8% gain from yesterday, this I run every night. This scan is long biased as the stocks may have more in them to run another day or two.
The scan:
"show stocks where close gained more than 8 percent over the last one day and price is between 1 and 20
average day range is above 3
Mondays list:
HYHY WCI KIRK UNCL ROYL EGR SWTX LGND PTEK CALC NCOC GLOB DGLY LLNW DPDW MERX MAG FRPT ALLI VITA NSU TRR JUPM ITI OZN QBIK COOL VVTV QUIK IDIX NENG EXAS HGRD TGX PLX SLTN FIRE VG SHFL MRVL

Next I scan for over 15% gainers over the last 2 days. This is run nightly too and is short biased.
show stocks where close gained more than 15 percent over the last 2 days and price is between 1 and 20
average day range is above 3
Mondays list:
HYHY SSBX UNCL MMPI DSUP PCSV EGR SWTX KOSN LGND TRX PTEK TRMP MAG FRPT ALLI TRR ITI QUIK ULBI HGRD TGX PLX FIRE SHFL MRVL TRIB WIND MESA GNTA NEXC HSOA GNLK SNUS CHTR SPSN SLTN QBIK COOL NENG

Next I run the The Combo scan which is stocks that have run the highest amount of times 10 to 19% in the last 100 days ranked in order of highest times to lowest times run. This is run on the weekend too as the watches change little from day to day. This scan is long biased.
On Stockfetcher.com it's known as the RunForestRun scan.
I then cherrypick the ones over 9% in the ADR(30) column.
EDIT:At the time of this post the average ADR(30) was lower than the average ADR(30)than now at the date of this edit,2/17/09.
Therefor I now use ADR(30) 12% and above to cherrypick.
Thus the name Combo, combo of the RunForestRun scan ( found on Stockfetcher) and Muddys high ADR(30).

Here's the SF code for the scan:
close is between 1 and 15
average volume(90) above 50000
average volume(10) above 250000
offset is 0

set{volcnt, count(volume above 50000, 100) }
set{volzero, count(volume equal 0, 100) }

set{x1, high - open}

Here's this weeks watches:

SPF SYNM QTWW ABK DCR GETG ICOG UNCL RTK MBI XJT FBR NYNY FBTX EEE MMPI BDCO PKT FTWR KUN FPP ENT PFB KOG HDSN TNRO IMB WCI SSN ROIAK LGDI GFG ROYL HDY JAZ HEV GRZ NBF YTBLA LCC

Next I scan for red candles at, or even better, out of the UBB (called floaters). This of course is run nightly and is short biased. The red floater is often the kiss of death imo.
I use this for watches to short in addition to watching those to short
from the 15%+ gains in 2 day scan mentioned above. I always watch the ones with a date offset of 1 also cause these tend to go down pretty nice over a few days period.

Here's the scan:

stocks where close is above upper bollinger band(20) and close is below open and price is between .5 and 20 and volume is greater than 200000
offset is 0

Mondays watches:
WTSLA UFS CWTR COCO CKR CMGI SINO SCS NSIT STSI HRZ RDEN ITI TRMP PCSV SMRT MMSI CYBX TMM

Then I scan for the top 120 RunForestRun stocks for next week. You really need not do this but since I use 3 monitors, ONE IS ALWAYS RUNNING THE SCOTT SCROLLING HOD LIST, I can watch a bunch of stocks in seconds by flipping fast from watchlist to watchlist.

And then the morning an hour before open I begin loading the Pre-market leaders from Interactive Brokers onto a watchlist as possible long/short opportunities.

It's not as many watches as you might think because many of the stocks are on multiple lists.

Ok, now some of my thoughts on what is important to me for successful trading.

1. I can not live without the scrolling Scott hod lists.
Muddy showed me how it was possible to get 20,30,40,even over 50% profits in minutes to a few hours using this. Last week I caught MESA and LGND almost at the start of their runs.
Never had them on any lists, only saw them on the hod list, which brings me to this.......

2. KNOWING former runners and stocks that have hit these scans I run more than normal stocks do. Both MESA and LGND I knew from that way.The only way to get them in your head is to study each nights scans and either write down multiple repeaters or try to remember them.
Watching hours of scrolling hod list helps a bunch too.

3. I like to trade around even dollar marks for under $10 stocks plus .50 marks for the $3 and unders.

4. I really watch the "late hits" that appear on the pre-market leaders board, the ones in the 20 minutes before the opening bell. Many of these run longer than the ones that had been on it since 8 am EST as West coasters tend to wake up late:).

5. I really like the ones I scan for for the "red to green" and "green to red" reversal.
Red to green means going from negative to positive on the day and vice versa.
Since almost all my scans include high dayrangers I think you can see why.

6. If I can I really like to daytrade the lower float stocks.

7. I also like to trade lower volume new 52 week high stocks.

8. I love finding pump and dumps and fluff press release and/or paid promoter stocks.
You need to watch like a hawk cause when they come down they can fall super fast without warning,if you can catch the start of the fall they make great shorts. That's what I'm always looking for,the short opportunity which brings me to.....

9. I like trading with IB,not just for low commish but mainly because you can short almost any stock there regardless of price plus their premarket leader list rocks, it shows in order the amount of time the stock has been on the list, you can catch the real late hits in the last 20 minutes real easy this way.

10. Besides Muddy's blog I read only one other ( since I daytrade I really don't care which direction these other bloggers think the market is going ) Its http://www.timothysykes.com/ for pennystocking and shorts.

11. IMO Stockfetcher is the best $9 a month you can spend if you are looking for a screening service.

12. Both Muddy and I have been in the mutual fund CGMFX for a long time, good place we've found to park trading profits.

13. I like to watch for the high gap open stocks, that are NOT due to earnings, for a fade between 10 am and 10:45 especially.

14. Intraday chartwise I really like the 10/60 sma cross for entries and exits. I used it a bunch when I first started not so much now cause I trust myself a lot better knowing the symbols.
Do a search for "10/60" in the search blog box to see some charts .

15. Daily chartwise I like the "Muddy zone" on UBB pullbacks and "waiting for green " with these to bounce out of this zone.Do search blog box for "Filters I Use". Muddy explains how to use this zone.He recently has widened the zone a bit to EMA10/SMA30 for better visability.

I like to follow stocks like ROYL that had a white candle being pierced by the UBB on a vol increase, see ROYL chart 5/2/08, 5/13 the bottom shadow went right into this zone, the next day it went green at 3.32,it's now at 5.79, ironically bouncing off the EMA twice during this run.
16. Also daily chartwise I like to use RSI(2) as an indicator of STRENGTH when the white candle is being pierced by the UBB. I like to see 90+ RSI2 in this situation, the nearer to 100 the better.
Most look to short these kind and I say they are dead wrong; this is an indicator of a strong stock not a sign of weakness.

Using ROYL again as an example look at RSI2 on its price/vol breakout day 5/2
Its RSI2 that day was 99.62 about as high as it can get!

17. As mentioned in the scans I run, I love to find red candles at the UBB and especially red "floaters" above the UBB. Then I wait for red the next day to go short. As Muddy used to tell me, "Red floaters kill!"

If I think of other tips that might be useful I will update on this post. I hope this will help clarify what I've been taught and how I try to put it into play for the average person just like me.
I feel I have a tremendous edge with this stuff, hope some of you find this helpful.

Edit by Muddy 1/1/09
Here's another filter/scan written by TheRumpledOne,TRO,that I know Mike ran and that I run that I guess Mike forgot to include in his original post.
TRO graciously gave this to me after we had talked about trying to find these.
He has posted his version on Stockfetcher that can be found on the RFR forum thread,3rd page dated 11/15/07 8:44am
The version Mike and I use is a modification showing the highest risk/reward(in our opinion)stocks, ranked in order of total points for 10%+ runs plus ADR(10). This scan is for stocks $1-15. We also run it with price between .20-$1.

PUMPS

This is what I said in last Saturday's post:

I also checked out UNCL seeing that the volume went from 44k Thursday to 2.5 million Friday!
Only news I could find was a seemingly fluff PR a few days ago and found it's in the business of student loans.
Kinda a shaky business it seems now with all the loan defaults.
IB has about 100,000 shares available to short.
I'll be in line.
Disclaimer,if it starts to run Tues I'll be on that train by going long first, then will try a short later when it does eventually turn red.
The volume Friday says it should be an "in play" stock.

Glad I put that disclaimer in cause UNCL zoomed this past week from 2.04 to 2.80 and it hit a high Friday of 3.05.
The point is as I said, this was an "in play" stock that means it should give way above gains either to the long side or the short side.
I (or nobody else ) knows for sure, no matter what they say that these kind will definitely go up, just put them on watch and see which direction they take. If you aren't comfortable with shorting just go long on an upbreak or just move on and sit it out.
I was aboard for some of the run but still have it on watch, especially for a short, it should fall pretty hard once it starts .
Speaking of falling hard I also in that post previewed KYUS,I said this:

Speaking of "pumps" KYUS, from what I hear a no business company, that's paying for pump is not coming down ( yet ).
It just keeps going and going and going with surging volume coming in now with 4.5 million shares traded on a long weekend Friday

This trash got taken out this week, it has fallen from Friday close of 3.97 hod of 4.47 to a close this Friday of 2.50!!

Keep sending me all those SPAM emails and faxs pumps.
Most folks hate that stuff, cause most fall down hard, me I say bring it on, I use it to my advantage.

Latest one I got is PTPE, a real junker, research shows it was a medical company until about 18 months ago, now they "dabble"in petroleum, hehe
They are "on the verge" of finding huge profitable oil fields.
Hmmmm,ok, something tells me this company ain't no Jedd Clampett
Hope it gaps up huge Monday, I'm gonna reserve short shares when the "OIL pump" ( sorry couldn't help that ) dries up :)

HDSN a stock I actually am holding, one of very very few, has gotten alot of chatter on the boards about a buyout and have seen a few folks say they have gotten faxes on it.
It closed within 10% of it's 52 week high Friday.
Maybe good one to watch when/if it does get closer to it's 52's

Here's some ones I'm seeing being pumped by promoters in the last few days, anybody see others please feel free to leave a comments.

BWEN KYUS TAYD UNCL DTCT PTPE HDY GTXO NPHC CYRX DPDW GNMT HYBR XMDE CHDO ENVI UBHI MFXD XRIT YTBLA JYHW MMGW MMPI HYHY NNVC VOYT FOUR FORC UOMO AKRX AUSE SWTX IDGI

Please understand many of these have fallen HARD since the pump,a few I caught that I could get enough shares or any at all to short.
Basically I'm putting these up for anyone interested to check out their charts and see if you can spot the pump/dump on your charts.
A few are still in play but most have already had their run and have been hit to the downside.
Also please note if you are NEWER to trading and don't understand how this P and D game works , and it is a game, just ignore these kind.

Awesome Back to Back Calls

13th was on fire this week. He called MESA on Thursday and LGND on Friday at the beginning of their runs. In fact he called them before the mass pile on really started and caused them to rocket. He picked up both moves SOLELY from watching the Scottrade scrolling high of day list. Once again, this is the power of learning stock symbols over time. The more scans you run, watchlists you follow, the better you get at seeing the "pop" on a symbol you know.

Here's MESA:

(May 29-12:03) 13th_FLOOR: MESA little pop .535

(May 30-12:05) Laura: scottrade hod list, stocks you know pop out at you. LGND has been in play for last few weeks, so when you see on hod list..........

(May 30-12:06) 13th_FLOOR: scott hod list i couldnt live with but you gotta understand i know a ton of potential runners from the past

ENVI-ous of Anyone That Shorted

Mentioned ENVI pump and dump yesterday. Shew, what a dump. You never know the exact day or time but it's gonna happen. Almost guaranteed. ENVI dropped from 2.70 to 1.70 in an hour!

What a shame; I couldn't get shares with Interactive Brokers. :(

ENVI Newsletter Pump/Dump

ENVI in my mailbox today. Looks like a sweet short.

INGN I WHACKED YOU!!

INGN was a top Premarket leader this morning, it gapped from 2.80 to 2.93 and then crossed 3 at 3.03 AND THEN it went below 3 AND then it got CREAMED .

I immediately went short at 2.80 and it was party time!! ( I love you IB,ha )

It hit lod of 1.80, a whole buck from my entry.

$3k profit on a stock I never had on watch last night, move with the flow!

I tried to upload the chart but it won't take but look at it, a thing of beauty.

Those of you who like to short the pennies watch VOYT ,shortable on IB, I'm licking my chops for a sign of RED!
Oh and bye bye ZAAP you dog.

Gimme Some Steel

Muddy and I are looking at steel stocks as a nice place to park some bucks that we don't need for daytrading.

GTI MTL AKS GSI ZEUS are a few. Compare the daily charts of these to TRA CF etc a year ago. They may seem high priced as you see they have doubled in 4-6 months, but most of them look like the start of a huge run up. P/E on most are very attractive.

GTI also has solar exposure. Just keeps going......

KYUS ... THE DUMP PART

Of the "pump and dump" was quick and nasty, lasting an hour with 13 red candles in a row!
It took the price from over $4 @ $4.19 right through the $3's to a low of $2.88.

Notice the warning one got with the 10/60 cross to the downside on Fri @ about $4.22

ONLY IF YOU LOVE THE UNDER $10 STOCKS

As I do,you may find this "T.V." show called LiveStock pretty informative.
Over on the left on TimSykes site ( yeah I know he's controversial, some love him ,some hate him,me I couldn't care less about his personality, although I do like him,he's even asked me to be a guest poster over on his site,it's where I find a whole bunch of info on "pennystocking" and the stocks that are "in play" at the moment ).

The link to his latest show is here:
http://www.mogulus.com/livestock

Interestingly he talked some about how companies will change their names to try to get a rise in share price and I had done some dd last night on CHTL to see what deal was on this going from 7k shares on Thursday to 365k yesterday.
Turns out they changed their name from Mortlock Ventures Inc. symbol MLVI to China Tel Group Inc.
Hmmmm, boring Mortlock to a Hot sector name , china telecommunication, nifty move!
Looking at the MLVI chart it looks as if this was manipulated by either/or spam email, fax, paid promoter pump or by "fluff" news.
17 green candles out of 19,all on a gradual rise, probably all green days the manipulators bought near the close just enough so it closed higher than the day before.
The tipoff here is there are very few top shadows on the candles during this run meaning the stock closed at or very near their high of day's.
Anyway let's see what they can do with their "new" name:)

Speaking of "pumps" KYUS, from what I hear a no business company, that's paying for pump is not coming down ( yet ).
It just keeps going and going and going with surging volume coming in now with 4.5 million shares traded on a long weekend Friady!

Edited 6:00 pm 5/24/08
Ok, I love digging into pump and dumps, so I'm over on silicon investor HERE reading this about a company that was named K-9 concepts ticker symbol KNIE that merged/changed their name to Aussie Soles ticker AUSE.
So later I go to my p.o. box to get my mail and guess what's in it.
A 15 page report from UntappedWealth stock newsletter that says these Aussie Soles shoes will be bigger than Crocs that jumped 800% in share price in just 19 months!
No thanks but I will play the pump and dump game with AUSE
You gotta read the link above from SI, it's hilarious, vitamin C showerheads anyone? LOL

HI EVERYONE - SINO,CHECK IT OUT!

Thanks Laura and Muddy for allowing me to be a guest poster.
I've known Muddy for for quite sometime and have learned well from him.
I've been in the chatroom for about 3 weeks now and I love it!
I'm trying to put up Muddy-like watches in there and really enjoy it.
We had a huge runner yesterday right at the open with SSN from 4.45 to hod at 7.84,closing at 6.51
Myself I also like to short these high flyers when they turn red ala SSN PDO MXC FPP today and MESA SSBX GETG from the past.
So I also try to alert ones like this ( SYNM today also fell hard fast ) in addition to alerting the ones on the long side.
The last 2 days we've had up to 20 folks in the chat up from about 10-12 last week.
So it looks like we are picking up.
Come join us if you have the time.

Today I alerted this 25 minutes before the open and it turned out to be a MONSTER!
I actually got the heads up on this early this morning from Muddy who got it from a friend over at Wealth University ( the WU link is over on the right on this blog, they have turned $2,000 into, not sure of the exact figure but very close, $95,000 since starting in October )

(May 22-09:05) 13th_FLOOR: watching chinese shipper ipo SINO,really low float

SINO ran hard all day closing at 21.45 from an open of 14.71 with almost 2 million shares traded!

This one wasn't too shabby either:

(May 22-09:06) Laura: GBR mentioned yesteday looks to gap big

I mentioned it yesterday at 8,it ran to 11 from there but backed down big back to close at 8.
Today was a different story ,it held almost all its gains , closing at 12.75 for a 59% gain.

Can you see why I love this stuff?

COMBO FILTER

Hey everybody,
I'm still around so if there's any questions just add a comment,I'll get back to you ASAP.
I've come up with what I call the "Combo Filter"and the last 3 months it has worked out really super for me.
What it basically is is the RunForestRun scan, authored by Avery Horton, combined with the stocks over 8% with ADR(30).
Very simple but pretty deadly.
An old friend of mine who goes by the nick 13th_floor got in touch with me around November of last year and said he was finally serious about trading for a living and asked me to tutor him.
Since we go back a long way,and he is such a giving person, I said sure.
To make a long story short he has come a looooong way since then.
He actually uses strictly my methodology and has been posting a bunch on Stockfetcher.
So here is the link to the SF forum that he describes what he calls The Deadly Combo

P.S. He has been in the live chatroom the last 2 weeks and from what I've heard his headsup are burying Muddy's,haha
Good for him,he has the fire,me I'm still on hiatus but expect to return to the chatroom after summer.
So if you want to check out the chat again if you were an old visitor in the past or if you are new to the chat, please drop in,we have renewed the chatroom for another year.
To newer viewers to this blog, you can see there haven't been any posts here for quite awhile BUT everything posted here remains the same, the "old" stuff still works so read.
Sincerely Muddy

P.P.S. Laura and I have asked 13th to be a contributor here with posts and to be a moderator in the room.

Hi Blobbers and Timmay!

Fun day again in the chat. Yesterday one of the best (and funniest) in a long time.

Thanks to all blobbers who came to our virtual BBQ to celebrate all the trades we made in IDMI.

Weather here near Philly even better today, near or at 70 degrees, took out the 1890 or something record high for the day.

DUDE and DUDETTE Blobbers, I told you to stay overnight after the BBQ as it was late, but no.......you all insisted on driving home, even after the champs. Don't get some of you like GLOBALSS and Scrumscrab and Rocky. Bitching about drive back to California and Hawaii, but 'tever. You guys are basically wusses, LOL. What's a little driving for a great meal? And not like we didn't work too, I mean really! Muddy is lazy as can be and he cooked 56 virtual steaks. And I had to clean up the mess you virtual blobbers made! Sniff!

But I guess a virtual drive is like the virtual BBQ. If you get pulled over for DUI, I hope you get a virtual cop.

Plus today in chat was cool cause we had a virtual (real actually) star stop in!! And our star mentioned our blog on his blog. Share the love, LOL. Anyways, our friend Timothy Sykes stopped in and stayed all day! Muddy and I both email with Tim from time to time and we will review his book here soon. Enjoying it so far! (I email Tim for real stuff, Mudd and Tim email each other with funny macho stuff about whose short picks trump the other's. Funny stuff!)

Today Tim said he started a new book a few days ago, but I am frankly kind of concerned that he scratched notes on cocktail napkins sometime last weekend at some hoity toity NY club and has already lost them. But he is young, no matter to me. Tim is a sweetheart and very friendly, honest, and down to earth. IMO, he is the next Cramer!! But nicer. Go TIMMAY!
